Cataracts involve the clouding of the eye’s natural lens, which impairs vision. This condition is most commonly due to aging and can progressively worsen, significantly impacting the quality of life if left untreated.
Yoga Poses:
Focus on poses that promote relaxation and circulation, such as Palming or Trataka (candle gazing) for eye health.
Palming
Palming is a simple and effective technique to relax and soothe the eyes. To practice palming, rub your hands together to generate warmth and then gently place your palms over your closed eyes, without pressing on the lids.
The warmth from the hands and the darkness help the muscles of the eyes relax, relieving tension and eye strain. This technique can be particularly beneficial for those who spend long hours in front of computer screens or reading.
It helps to refresh the eyes and can reduce headaches and improve focus by allowing the eye muscles a moment of relaxation and recovery.
Trataka (Candle Gazing)
Trataka is a form of concentration in yoga where you focus your gaze on a single point or object – typically a candle flame. This practice involves sitting at a comfortable distance from a candle in a dimly lit room and staring at the flame steadily without blinking for as long as possible.
Once the eyes begin to water or feel strained, they are closed and relaxed. The goal of Trataka is to strengthen the eye muscles and improve focus and concentration. It is also said to stimulate the ajna (brow) chakra, which can increase mental clarity and a sense of inner peace.
Diet:
Foods rich in vitamins C and E, like citrus fruits and almonds, can help slow the progression of cataracts.
